Prison is one of the gamemodes on Minecraft Central. It was added on the 29th of March 2014. The goal of Prison is to rank up to as high a rank as you can. There is only one Prison server. There used to be a second Prison server from the 23rd of February 2015 until the 20th of August 2021. There have been 16 resets. The player limit of the servers was increased to 350 on the 29th of November 2018. It had previously been 300. The limit was increased again on the 9th of February 2020 to 400 players.
General Info[]
The goal of Prison is to rank up from rank A to rank Z9. Players can mine and sell ores and wood, or sell drops from mob spawners to the /shop to gather money. Spawners were added in Prison 3.0, and have been a popular way to get money ever since. The rank up costs increase the further the player ranks up, furthering the challenge for each prestige. Players used to have their own plots where they could build and store items. Starting from Prison 9.0 they also had a private mine which they could configure if they had reached prestige 1. Later, in Prison 17.0 private mines were opened to all players even before prestiging. With Prison 10.0 the plots were removed and replaced entirely by private mines. There is also a Wilderness PvP area, and and Abyss Mine where players can mine for Essence. Previously, before Prison 17.0, there were mines for ranks A-Z, Premium Ranks, and Wood. There were originally only ranks up to Z but ranks Z1 to Z9 were added on the 27th of July 2015. There used to be a shop warp before Prison 4.0, but it was replaced by a GUI shop (accessible via the /shop command).
The item selector for Prison is the Iron bars block. The NPC in Lobbies is a policeman holding Iron bars.
No data was linked between the two Prison servers. The Prison rank used to be linked until Prison 6.0.
Resets[]
There have been 17 resets to Prison. The first reset took place on the 13th of April 2016. The reset added a new spawn, new item collection system, bulk Selling signs, new designs for every other mine and the removal of ranks Z1 to Z9. However, the ranks were quickly added back.

There were also some bug fixes. The Boss Battles were removed a day later, on the 24th of September 2018 due to bugs. The introduction of new mob drops (Roses) from Iron Golems enabled players to create 'flower farms' by purchasing bone meal from the shop, growing roses on their plots, and then reselling the roses at incredibly high values. This was quickly patched by changing the value of both roses and bone meal to ensure that the process would not be profitable.

Prestige System[]
The ranks Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5, Z6, Z7, Z8 and Z9 were added on the 27th of July 2015. This wasn't a prestige system, as the rank progress didn't reset after you ranked up into higher Z ranks. There weren't ranks such as A1, B1 or others either. After Prison 2.0 was added, these Z ranks were removed during the reset but were added back soon after the reset.
The prestige system was added on the 16th of June 2017. Prestiges are ranks above Z and have numbers in them. Basically, after achieving rank Z, players can start again from A1. They can then progress to Z1, and after that start again from A2. The rank up prices go up after every completed cycle, as the rank up costs double. Each prestige adds a 0.1 multiplier to the regular sell price of ores in mines. The ranks Z1-Z9 were removed the same day to allow prestige ranks.
A big change to the prestige system was made on the 27th of September 2018 during Prison 5.0. Players had used a lot of spawners in previous seasons in order to rank up fast. Due to this, new restrictions were added for the amount of spawners and also a block requirement for prestige ranks. Below are the amounts of spawners that players can place, depending on their prestige. The amount of blocks that are required to be mined before being able to prestige are shown after the first table. On the 13th of April 2019 a hopper limit was also added to prestige ranks. With Prison 7.0 on the 31st of January 2020 the prestige rank tags got new colours. The colours change every 2 prestiges. On the 5th of September 2020 with Prison 8.0 a new feature was added where an announcement would be made when someone prestiges. With the Prison 9.0 release on the 17th of April 2021, a special message was added. This message was broadcast whenever a player reached the level Z9.
Another big change was made on the 17th of March 2023 with Prison 15.0. The first 3 players to reach Z9 would now be able to claim a unique trophy, and all other players who reached Z9 would also get a trophy. These trophies are unique to the season and only exist during the same season. Starting from Prison 16.0, the 16th of June 2023, Kit Money would now increase the amount of money given depending on the prestige.
With Prison 10.0 on the 20th of August 2021 the amount of Spawners and Hoppers was increased and the limit would now be enforced on Private Mines instead of plots. In Prison 11.0 the amount of Hoppers was also increased.

Custom Enchants[]
Custom Enchants were added on the 13th of April 2019. Players can add enchants to their armour and tools. When buying Custom Enchants, players get 1 random book that they can drag onto the armour or tools in their inventory. Each Custom Enchant costs 20 Tokens. (Cost was 60 Tokens before Prison 7.0 and 30 before Prison 8.0). Players can combine two level I books in their inventory to create a level II book. Custom Enchants obtained from Treasure Chests allow the player to choose which one they want to unlock. This feature was added on the 15th of September 2023 with Prison 17.0. On the 22nd of December 2023, with Prison 18.0, the ability to recycle Custom Enchants was added. Players can recycle them for 5 Tokens each.

Upgradeable Pickaxes were added on the 31st of January 2020 with Prison 7.0. Upgradeable Pickaxes allow players to choose from upgrades after they have mined a certain amount of blocks with it. Players can obtain the pickaxe from Kit Pickaxe. The highest level is level 99. In order to get to this level, the player must mine 6,535,000 blocks.
There are 4 possible upgrades: Efficiency, Token Detector, Fortune and Blast Mine. Blast Mine gives a chance to mine a 3x3 area at once. By default, a token can be found every 1,000 blocks or so. (So a 1 in 1000 chance to find a Token). The Token Detecotor upgrade used to reduce the amount of blocks that needed to be mined before a token appeared, but the upgrade was changed a bit with Prison 9.0 on the 17th of April 2021. The upgrade would now give the player a chance to receive 2 tokens instead of 1 whenever they got a token.
With Prison 10.0 on the 20th of August 2021, Pickaxe EXP papers were added. These could be received from the Voting Villager. Dragging these papers on top of an Upgradable Pickaxe would increase its EXP by that amount. Pickaxe Experience was also added to Treasure Chest Rewards in Prison 17.0.

There is a Prison Guard in the middle of the Smuggler spawning area, and players can click him to sell the contraband. Each contraband is worth $5,000. Alternatively players can use the contraband to buy a Bear Spawner from /shop for 1,000 Contraband. The spawning of Smugglers has an animation where a laserbeam launches from the Prison Guard, along with a projectile. When the projectile reaches the ground, there is a firework effect and the Smuggler spawns. There is a maximum of 10 Smugglers at a time, and new ones spawn as the previous ones are killed.
